Last Updated on 10 March 2024 by Ariana Svenson

Looking for the best Margaret River farm stays? You’re in for a big treat. There are many natural wonders in the Margaret River area, from pristine beaches to renowned surf breaks and exciting trails.

In fact, the Margaret River area is actually foremost an agricultural area,  with dairy farming the first industry in the area.  Today the area continues  to have a  thriving farming culture at its backbone, making it an ideal destination for farm stays.

As our family loves staying on a farm and meeting all the animals, we are pleased to tell you that some of the best places to stay in this area are the Margaret River Farmstays.

Here’s your guide to the best Margaret River farm stays to consider on your next trip.

What is a Farm Stay?

A farm stay is a unique holiday accommodation option where you can experience living in the country (with modern comforts of varying degrees) and immerse yourself in farm life.

Depending on your chosen farm stay, you can have unique experiences. Some provide wine experiences, inviting you to explore vineyards and savour private wine tastings. Others offer animal interactions or direct access to scenic trails where you can spot Western Australia’s wildflowers.

Many farm stays feature traditional farm activities such as collecting fresh eggs, tractor rides, and exploring kitchen gardens.

Which Farmstay in Margaret River is Best?

It’s a very tough call, because there are some truly wonderful options on this list, but we think the best farm stay in Margaret River is Margaret River Hideaway & Farm-stay.

There are three reasons we love this place; actually 4…  Firstly it is in the heart of Margaret River, just 5 minutes from town so easy to pop into town if you need something.  Secondly, here there are a range of secluded cottages so you can get away from it all.  Thirdly, they have farm animal feeding four days a week, which is one of the main reasons we like to take the kids to a farm.  Finally,  – and most important of all – our fur babies can come with us,  Margaret River Hideaway have fenced enclosures to accommodate dogs and is dog friendly.

6. Sunflowers Farm

Location: 129 Ludlow-Hithergreen Rd, Ludlow

Little boy feeding animals with a basket full of food
My son feeding a Llama at Sunflower Farm, Margaret River

Sunflowers Farm is a great way to combine a farm experience with some rustic accommodation.

** Note, Sunflowers Farm has moved!!!!  When we stayed it was just 5 minutes out of Margaret River on Caves Road – after 23 years at that location, it has moved to Ludlow, half way between Busselton and Capel.  The new farm is close to  Lalyalup and Forest Beach, as well as Wonnerup and the Ludlow State Forest .

When we stayed in Margaret River the accommodation itself was in old-fashioned (though renovated) farm cottages;  having stayed here ourselves, we can definitely say it’s not the fanciest farm stay accommodation you’ll experience in Margaret River – but it is very authentic, AND you get to access the farm animals after hours.

That’s right – for us, one of the biggest benefits of staying at Sunflowers Farm is that you can visit the entire farm after hours, meaning that you have the alpacas, cows, horses and baby chickens all to yourself.

As this is also one of the most popular activities for children in Margaret River, it does get busy and crowded during the day, especially on School holidays. So we really appreciated that we could spend as much time as we liked after hours.

Another huge highlight is the Tractor Rides at Sunflower farm; you all pile onto a big trailer pulled by a tractor and are driven around the farm, down to a creek for boat races and then marshmallow toasting over a wood fire.

Of everything, the tractor ride was the whole family’s favourite and a great reason to book this farm stay.

8. Kerriley Park Farmstay

Location: 288 Yelverton N Rd, Busselton

Charming scene on the pasture: A little pony grazing alongside other farm animals

This idyllic farm stay is perfect for visiting Margaret River with kids.

Stay in one of four self-contained cottages in a peaceful rural setting. Each cottage features a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and a cozy lounge.

During your Kerriley Park farm stay, you can enjoy the bush trails, join the daily animal feedings and enjoy the animal petting section where kids can learn to handle rabbits and guinea pigs.

Other animals on the farm include ponies, lambs, goats and an alpaca. There is also a pool and playground on site.

I’ve seen Kerriley Park Farmstay described as being in Dunsborough and Busselton… when, in reality, it’s in neither.

It is located in Yelverton,  25 minutes south of Busselton, 20 minutes south of Dunsborough and just 10 minutes east of Yallingup. So if you choose to stay here, your closest village and beach would be Yallingup.

It is also very close to Carbunup River, which has a great attraction for the kids – the Discover Deadly Reptile Centre.
