Best time to visit South Coast Western Australia
Let’s be honest – the south coast of Western Australia is stunning – but the water comes up directly from Antarctica! While the white sands and turquoise waters look tropical, even in the height of summer the water never gets particularly warm.
Being located in the south of Australia, the South Coast is subject to the long, and cold (for
Australia), and wet winters with plenty of storms and wind. This means that the best time to visit
the region is from September through to April. In fact, September and October are awesome
months for the wildflower displays; though only the bravest will have a swim. We start swimming in November and will continue right through to May – but we do often wear wetsuits or thermal
rashies.
The South Coast and Esperance is just as ruggedly beautiful in winter as in summer – but there are fewer sunny days and you have to plan your outdoor excursions between the rain showers.
Our favourite areas of South Coast WA
While the South Coast, with its azure waters, pristine white sand beaches, and amazing rock
formations is the major attraction of the region; there is a lot more to do and see. There is a
burgeoning food and wine scene, and plenty of things for adventure seekers and hikers to do. The area includes the Porongurup National Park and the sensational Granite Skywalk, as well as Western Australia’s highest peak at Bluff Knoll. Also let’s not forget hip and happening Denmark with a wealth of beautiful places to explore.
