If you are looking for the best family accommodation in South West WA, then you have come to the right place! We love the south west of Western Australia and family holidays in WA are our specialty. We’ve holidayed in the South West at least once a year since the children were small. For those unfamiliar, “WA” stands for Western Australia.

Have you ever noticed that TripAdvisor can’t compare between hotels in the same town, other than travel ratings, which can be skewed by expectations and individual experiences? Well, we offer advice that is based on our very own stays over many years. We have stayed in most of these hotels, and have bookings to stay in others in the future. We can actually share what it is like to stay in this down south accommodation! Better still, we can compare apples for apples.

We’ve compiled this list of the best family accommodation in South West WA over our many stays. Frankly, when traveling with kids, we look for a swimming pool, and during the winter, we look for an indoor heated pool. Whether it is a short weekend getaway or a longer vacation, an indoor pool in the winter months is ideal for burning off the kids’ energy.
We thought families looking for a winter escape would appreciate this handy guide to family accommodation in South West WA, with a focus on indoor heated pools. Some of these hotels are coincidentally among the best family resorts in Western Australia due to their excellent facilities.
With many of these accommodation options in south-west WA offering winter sales, such as ‘pay for 2, stay for 3’ or ‘kids stay free’, a mid-winter family getaway makes the south-west an excellent option for family holidays in WA.

The accommodation in Busselton is amongst the best in the state, and there are many styles and standards.
Accommodation in Busselton has really benefited from the amazing caravan parks that have taken camping and caravaning to a new level! They have kids’ playgrounds, jumping pillows, and even water slides (for the summer months).

Mandalay Holiday Resort
Famous for its outdoor striped slide, the Mandalay Holiday Resort is also a fantastic option for a winter getaway, offering an indoor solar heated pool, there is also a jumping pillow and playground. With a range of different types of accommodation in Busselton on offers, friends rave about their stays here. The only reason we haven’t yet – is that it is always booked out!

Abbey Beach Resort
With a massive foyer and a grandiose reception, Abbey Beach Resort certainly looks like it is a luxury accommodation. In reality, it is a very well maintained, rather quiet timeshare apartment block. Apartments are large, with self-contained kitchens and even a spa. We spent most of our time here in the huge indoor swimming pool and sauna. There is a playground and tennis courts. This is a quality place to stay, with easy access to the beach.

Broadwater Resort
Another favorite resort-style hotel in this area, though a bit older, is the Broadwater Resort which offers hotel rooms, apartments with kitchenettes, or villas with fully equipped kitchens. Their indoor pool was absolutely fantastic and the overall resort has a very family-friendly feel. Although, it is a little older in style than the Abbey Beach Resort. However, even though it is older it still makes a fantastic choice for accommodation in south west WA.

BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park
The Big4 Beachlands Holiday Park offers campsites, caravan sites, and right through to a range of quality self-contained cabins and villas. For sure, the Luxury Spa Villas and Jacuzzi Bungalows sound fabulous for a few days away! They have a new splash and play zone that includes a heated swimming pool with a dedicated toddler’s pool. In summer, there is an outdoor water play zone. All the water features make Big4 Beachlands a great place to stay for family holidays WA.

Amalfi Resort
Offering self-contained villas, Amalfi Resort states it is understated budget-conscious accommodation in Busselton. However, it comes in at a similar price range of the others in the Busselton area. It is on the same strip of Geographe Bay as the above two caravan parks. It has an outdoor heated swimming pool (which might be a problem in the heart of winter). They offer winter deals like Stay 3 and Pay 2.

Busselton Luxury Accommodation Options
Aqua Resort
If you are looking for a truly luxurious accommodation in Busselton, Western Australia, check out the Aqua Resort. Located on the shores of the Geographe Bay and short drive into Busselton, this is one of the premier resorts in Western Australia.
Aqua Resort has different, upscale beach houses to choose from. Each house has direct beach access and many have private heated plunge pools. Besides the modern houses, Aqua also has all the typical resort accommodations. It has a spa, tennis court, gym, pool, and they even offer pilates classes.

Dunsborough Accommodation

Pullman Bunker Bay Resort
The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is a truly luxurious hotel located in the Margaret River Wine Region and offers complimentary kids club activities – in season! It has an outdoor heated infinity-edge swimming pool with Pool Bar, which is open seasonally so it is worth checking whether it will be open prior to your booking!

Bay Village Resort And Spa
The Bay Village Resort And Spa offer fully self-contained apartments, villas, and chalets right in the heart of Dunsborough. The cottage itself was cozy, beds were comfortable and it had all the amenities you would want. There are washer and dryers in the villas and apartments, with most cottages and chalets only having a dryer.
The Bay Village Resort and Spa makes it onto our list as they have a small indoor swimming pool.
Located in the middle of town, it is walking distance to pubs, cafes, shops, and a two-minute walk to Geographe Bay. It has a great park next door for the kids (not on the property some). Reviews mention that some chalets are located near to both the hotel and tavern, meaning it can be quite noisy when those establishments are busy. Still, it makes for a great accommodation in south west WA.

Yallingup Accommodation

Margaret River Area Accommodation
Margaret River family accommodation options are endless, with every type of resort, farm stay, luxury camping, or simply hotel available. We’ve discovered fewer hotels offer heated pools though, which for us is a vital element of our weekend winter getaways. In fact, we adore Margaret River in Winter.

Margarets Beach Resort
Just a short drive from the town of Margaret River, this accommodation in Margaret River is the only one actually located on the beach. Margarets Beach Resort offers luxury self-contained apartments. Depending on the size of your family, there are studio, one and two-bedroom apartments. This is a great romantic accommodation in south west WA.
They also offer free wifi, a seasonally heated pool, bbq facilities, and an onsite restaurant. Did we also mention it is right on the beach?

As you venture further south, there are many options for down south accommodation. None of these accommodations is resort-style, with the exception of Karri Valley Resort in Pemberton.

Bunbury Area Accommodation
Quality Hotel Lighthouse
The views from the Quality Hotel Lighthouse are truly 5 stars. Even though the hotel has been recently refurbished you really get the feeling that this was once a truly spectacular place to stay.
The indoor pool is second to none and has views of the lighthouse, which is over the road. The restaurant has views across the ocean and the twinkling lights of Bunbury.
The rooms themselves are fairly small and hotel-like, but the overall feeling for this hotel is – fun! This is a great family accommodation in South West WA.

Atrium Hotel Mandurah – Heated Pool Bonus
While technically not in the South West, the Atrium Hotel Mandurah is still far away from Perth to make a great staycation or weekend getaway!
Mid-winter we had a great overnight stay at the Atrium, Mandurah, specifically for its heated pool. We were not the only family with this idea. Three other groups were doing the same thing and with a pile of kids of the same age in the pool, it almost felt like a resort.
While the overall hotel feels a bit dated, the rooms are spacious with catering facilities and perfectly sufficient for the average family looking to get away.
