Gorgeous Pullman Resort Bunker Bay: Margaret River Luxury Accommodation

Last Updated on 23 January 2026 by Ariana Svenson

If there is one place that is synonymous with Margaret river luxury accommodation it’s the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort.  This is truly a world-class luxury resort, having received a number of prestigious awards.  If you are wondering what it is like to stay – read on for our Pullman Bunker Bay resort reviews.  We give it the thumbs up and definitely, think it’s one of the best places to stay in Margaret River.

Keep in mind that the Pullman Resort Bunker Bay is located near an isolated beach location near a National Park – it is not in Margaret River itself.  It is actually technically Dunsborough luxury accommodation, as well as fitting the criteria for 5-star accommodations Margaret River.   This means that you have nearly an hour’s drive to reach the town of Margaret River.  We actually don’t think that’s a problem as there is a load to do around Dunsborough and Yallingup villages.  We refer to this hotel as the best Dunsborough luxury accommodation in our post  Best Things To Do In Dunsborough WA.  However, it is best to be straight up at the beginning of the review

Arriving at the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort

If you have driven several hours to get to the Bunker Bay Pullman then as you drive up towards Cape Naturaliste you very much feel like you’ve reached the end of the road.  We arrived in daylight, I can’t imagine what it would be like arriving after dark!  The road is narrow and winding.  There are plenty of kangaroos out – you are most definitely not in a city.

Even as you get close to the resort you have no idea that the 150 villas are tucked in between the native trees and that there is a lake on the grounds and really secluded feel.  There is a real feeling of peace in the garden rooms, and at night you can hear the waves crashing nearby.  It is the perfect escape.

At no time during our stay did we feel like we were at a big resort.  The whole atmosphere at the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is one of a boutique hotel, and that could be why it’s considered the best of the luxury accommodation Margaret River region.

Accommodation at the Pullman Resort Bunker Bay

As expected of one of the most luxurious hotels in the Margaret River region – there is a wide range of hotel rooms to choose from.  For couples looking for a getaway, there is a studio villa with a king-size bed and open floor plan as well as secluded garden views.

For those who love the water, the Lake View Studios and One-Bedroom Apartments are gorgeous options.  Each has its own private balcony that overlooks the water and Nespresso machines.

For families, the Two and Three-Bedroom Villas are a wonderful self-contained option.  They have living areas that are gorgeous with soaring open roof space, extraordinarily spaces – large baths to fill up with hot bubbles – perfect for lots of kids.  These two apartment types come with options of a garden view (more affordable) and lake views.  Both have well-equipped kitchenettes should you want to spend an evening in.

Pullman Bunker Bay is Definitely a Family Friendly Resort

From check-in when each child was gifted an age-appropriate toy.  The kids were well cared for at the Pullman Bunker Bay.

They loved the heated infinity pool!  Even on wild and wet July days – our kids weren’t the only ones in swimming.  While parents sat around the edge of the pool rugged up in winter jackets, the kids had a ball, just as they would at any other resort pool.

The 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are huge.  While clearly its beautiful luxury accommodation – it’s not ostentatious that the whole family can’t relax – the kids can be kids.

Another thing that makes the Pullman a great family resort is its location.  As explained earlier, Bunker Bay is located at the northern end of the Margaret River wine region.  This means that the closest towns are Dunsborough and Yallingup.  In our opinion, Dunsborough is very family-friendly, with the excellent Simmos Icecreamery and Next Level Monkey business close to town.  Other attractions for kids, like the Naturaliste Reptile Park and Archery course in Busselton.  (It will of course depend on the age of your children).

Don’t forget that when sharing the parent’s room by using existing bedding or with a crib or rollaway bet you can enjoy free accommodation and breakfast for up to 2 children under 12 years.

There are also complimentary pool/beach toys, colouring-in and tennis equipment available from reception.  If you are looking for a parent’s night out – then there is a babysitting service on request.

If you book during the Western Australian school holidays the resort runs a Pullman Kid’s Club with complimentary children’s activities.  This is the only resort in the Margaret River area that runs this type of activity.   Unfortunately, though we did stay during the school holidays, the activities were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

Accessibility – Getting around the Resort

The Pullman Resort has a very large carpark servicing its 150 rooms, which are spread out on a hill overlooking Bunker Bay.  The walk back up from the room is quite steep!  At least it was for me carrying a toddler and my 75-year-old mother.

Also if you go out for dinner and come back late, you will be right at the top of the carpark.  There is a buggy on call to take your luggage from the room to your car at check-in/check-out.  However, keep in mind that there is high demand at check-out – we waited quite a while!

Breakfast at the Pullman Resort Bunker Bay

Breakfast is often included in room rates – and we have to say, it’s well worthwhile – what a delicious buffet.

As mentioned earlier, we visited after the Covid-19 pandemic had started.  While in many places in the resort you could see extra sanitiser stations and cleaning, it was most evident in the buffet.  The cold buffet now had all items individually proportioned.  You were not sharing utensils to serve yourself, rather take just a small place.  At the hot buffet, a masked and gloved team served your delicious hot breakfast, rather than serving yourself.

During the school holidays, the breakfast buffet has the extra addition of a kids buffet station with treats sure to tempt the mini adventurers.  Just another of the elements making this one of the best Dunsborough family accommodations.  Not to mention places to stay with kids in the whole Margaret River region.

Walking through the reception at the Pullman Resort you are greeted by expansive views of Bunker Bay.

Restaurants at the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort

As you walk through the Pullman’s arched entry you are greeted with views right through to the ocean.  The entire reception area sets the scene through its natural appearance, hewn bricks, exposed wooden beams, and amazing high vaulted ceilings.   The restaurant and lounges floor to ceiling windows perfectly frame Bunker Bay.  It is the perfect setting for a warm afternoon drink.  Or, in summer, I could imagine sitting out on the verandas sipping a cocktail!

The Other Side Of The Moon Restaurant is named for the nearby surf break.  It does its best to showcase the best of the Margaret River region, the indigenous seasons, and everything you would expect from a Gold plate awards winner.  The lounge had an amazing ambience.  We visited in winter and it was so cosy by a fire, yet having the natural light and views of the ocean right there.

Whale watching is a must-do thing in the Margaret River region.  The good news is that during spring you might be lucky to see whales and their calves right from the terrace! Sightseeing doesn’t get easier than that!

Heated pool at the Bunker Bay Pullman Resort

The glorious heated infinity pool is a centrepiece of the Pullman resort.  Being that it is heated all year round, it puts the Bunker Bay at the top of the list for Best Things to do in Margaret River in Winter.

When we asked the kids about their favourite thing to do in Margaret River during the week we stayed, the pool was definitely very highly rated!

Vie Spa Pullman Resort Bunker Bay

As expected for a resort offering some of the best Margaret river luxury accommodation, the Vie Spa offers an extensive treatment menu.  Not only are the staff highly skilled in new and old techniques, in keeping with the South West local theme (that is present both in the construction of the resort, and in the menus) the Vie spa has unique treatments that reflect the beautiful bush of the region, and the powerful coast.   The treatment menu includes massages, water therapies, facials and hand and foot treatments, amongst many others!

Location of the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort

Seriously, you don’t get better locations than this one.  The resort is nestled into the sand dunes overlooking Bunker Bay, a great surf break and a lovely white sand beach.  From the resort, you are a 2-minute walk and you are on a pristine wild beach as if you were miles from anywhere – the perfect escape if you are looking for solicitude.

You are also only a  5 minutes drive from two of the must-do things in the Cape Naturaliste area!  They are the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Sugarloaf rock.  If you are looking for a brisk morning’s walk then we highly recommend the stunning walk from Cape Naturaliste to Sugarloaf.  It is 100% paved and wheelchair accessible and very beautiful.

Another idea is that is easy to do from the Pullman Bunker Bay is the Bunker Bay loop which we cover in our Short Margaret River hikes information.

The closest town to the Pullman Bunker Bay is Dunsborough.  A little hamlet once very sleepy but now much busier and featuring a number of chic boutiques.  Discover the Best Things to do in Dunsborough Western Australia, and while you are in the area why not Visit a Busselton Winery or one of the very new Busselton Breweries.

Travel Times to the Pullman

  • Perth to the Pullman Bunker Bay – 3 hours driving
  • Dunsborough to the Pullman Bunker Bay – 11 minutes
  • Busselton to the Pullman Bunker Bay – 35 minutes
  • Yallingup to the Pullman Bunker Bay – 20 minutes (you need to drive via Dunsborough)
  • Margaret River to the Pullman Bunker Bay – 50 minutes

Remember while the Pullman is listed as being a Margaret River Wine Region hotel, it is quite a way from Margaret River or even Busselton.  We highly recommend if you are looking for a luxury getaway weekend in Margaret River you look at one of the luxury properties further south, or your options to explore the attractions around Dunsborough and Yallingup which are short drives and there is honestly so much to do there, you will easily fill a long weekend!

Tips & Hints from our Pullman Bunker Bay Review

  • Three hours south of Perth, the Pullman is almost at the end of the road when you head to Cape Naturaliste.  Stop for supplies in Dunsborough, only 10 minutes out from the resort.  This especially applies to the 2 and 3 bedroom apartments which have lovely little kitchenettes where you can prepare food.
  • With over 150 rooms, make no mistake, the Pullman Bunker Bay resort is a very large hotel, spread over quite a bit of ground – and on a hill.  It was a long downhill/uphill walk from the carpark to our garden 2 bedroom apartments.  You can call for a buggy to assist with luggage but remember to do this with plenty of time to spare.  We waited over 30 minutes for ours.
  • It really is far out of town.  Also, the roads are dark and winding so plan to come during the daylight hours if you can.  If not, be prepared to feel that you are in a very remote place.  Not to worry when there are no lights all around.
  • Make sure you allow plenty of time for invigorating walks on beautiful Bunker Bay; sit down and watch the surfers catch waves! It’s quite captivating and their skill is incredible.

The Verdict – Our Pullman Bunker Bay Review

Without a doubt, the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort easily wins the title of best Dunsborough luxury accommodation.  Also, it is amongst the best Margaret river accommodation – not only for families but for couples looking for a getaway.  Despite the size of the resort, the rooms are secluded and beautifully appointed.  As you would expect for a 5-star resort.  The service was awesome and in terms of family-friendly accommodation, you don’t get better.  Our kids’ favourite thing was the heated infinity pool.  However, the breakfast buffet got thumbs up as did the room as well.
