Are you looking for the BEST family resorts in Perth? Without a doubt, Perth has some of the best city beaches in the world; check this blog post with the best beaches in Perth. The Perth coastline stretches from one end of the city to the other.
If you are looking for a uniquely Perth place to stay on holiday, then a place near the beach – or even better, with ocean views, certainly makes for a memorable holiday.
The first question to answer is where to stay for the best Perth Beach accommodation. We like Scarborough Beach; it is a beautiful beach and still quite centrally located in the city.
There is a vibe about Scarborough in the evening with several restaurants and a few places you can dance at as well.
Rendezvous Observation City
Only a few places can be described as ‘family resorts in Perth’, but the Rendezvous Observation City fits the bill. It’s one of the top 10 family resorts in Perth, with a palm tree-ringed pool and magnificent ocean views.
There are clean, spacious rooms with bathtubs. The best thing about the Rendezvous Observation City is the location – right on Scarborough Beach. Our kids especially loved the balconies with the views over the Indian Ocean.
With a playground nearby and a wonderful beachside atmosphere, this is the place to stay for those who don’t get beachside holidays often!
Perth folk will remember Observation City at Scarborough Beach in the 1980s. It was the epitome of elegance and glamour. These days, as a Perth family staycation – or a solid family holiday option – we love it.
This hotel is included in our list of affordable family hotels in Perth because it offers great deals from time to time. You can get a room for as little as $130 a night for a lower floor and a side view of the ocean. However, you still get a view of the ocean. There are also good restaurant options very close.

Seashells Scarborough
Another accommodation Scarborough Perth option is the Seashells Scarborough. This great Perth Beach accommodation is often where locals go for a bit of staycation as one of the best beach hotels in Perth.
These self-contained apartment-like rooms are a great option for couples and families alike. You can enjoy the gorgeous beach and Seashells Scarborough has two outdoor pools.
Another cool feature is that both pool areas feature dining and BBQ areas. This accommodation in Scarborough, Perth, is great if you are not into dining in the local restaurants. This is a moderately priced Perth beach accommodation.

Crown Metropol
The 5-star Crown Metropol is an excellent, family-friendly resort in Perth, offering the chance for relaxation and adventure. The hotel is on the banks of the Swan River with a view of the Perth cityscape.
The pool area boasts a sprawling main pool for leisurely swims, a relaxation pool for unwinding, and, much to the delight of the younger guests, a family-friendly pool with fun-filled children’s waterslides.
The pool has a bar with an excellent poolside menu where you can sip fresh juices, smoothies, and cocktails. The Kids Hub at the pool offers indoor excitement for children aged 12 and under. There is also an indoor pool, which ensures water fun throughout the year (yes Perth can be cold in winter!)
There’s a dedicated kids’ room with toys, TVs, arcade games, and bike rentals for exploring the Burswood peninsula.

Other Perth Beachside Resorts for Families
To the north, there are more Perth family resorts. Sorrento Beach is well known for offering great family swimming, and, as with all Perth beaches, the turquoise water contrasts perfectly against the pure white sand. There are also grassed areas and change rooms.
Near to Sorrento Beach is the lively Hillarys Boat Harbor, which features some excellent restaurants and cafes, as well as the highly recommended AQWA. You can read our A Guide to the Aquarium Of Western Australia – AQWA Perth Aquarium.
Also, this whole area is not known as the ‘Sunset Coast’ for nothing. If you head down to any of the beaches in this area at sunset, you will surely be in for a truly stunning sunset!
Quality Resort Sorrento Beach
Another great option is the Quality Resort Sorrento Beach, which offers amenities like free parking and free wifi. Not to mention, it has an outdoor heated pool, BBQ area, and a sauna. If you are traveling with a large family, call to inquire about their three-bedroom rooms! This is a great value if traveling with a large group.

Like any city, the centre of Perth offers a lot to do and see! Especially if you have decided not to hire a car, the centre of Perth city provides the best transport hub.
If staying in the CBD, you should get familiar with the Perth CAT (Central Area Transit) buses, which are free, and you can get on and off as many times as you like. The CBD is the best place to base yourself to explore Perth, and there are plenty of family-friendly hotels in Perth to choose from.
You can explore the interesting Elizabeth Quay precinct or explore some of the many varied kids listed in our guide to the best Things To Do In Perth For Kids, like the Western Australian Museum or the Perth Mint.
Don’t miss a trip to Kings Park Perth, and if you are traveling with kids, you will want them to explore some of Kings Park’s Awesome Playgrounds. You can also read our guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth here.
It is easy to get to Kings Park by taking TransPerth bus route 935, which travels from St Georges Terrace right into the heart of Kings Park. This service is free for passengers traveling from the CBD to Kings Park and runs every 10 minutes on weekdays and 15 minutes on weekends.
Crowne Plaza Perth
One of our favourite recent staycation was a few nights at the Crowne Plaza Perth which has a great central location. With a fantastic infinity pool with views over the Swan River, it has to have one of the best pool views in Perth.
With economic room rates, good wifi, plus the great pool, the Crowne Plaza Perth was also close to a playground in Langley Park. We loved sunset walks along the Swan River too… what a truly spectacular place to live.
The free CAT bus meant it was an easy trip into the city or to Elizabeth Quay, while the Perth Mint and the Wellington Square playground were within Walking distance.
Not the fanciest hotel (but seriously, who needs the bells n whistles with kids)… but a really great option. And clearly popular with families as there were loads there during the January holidays when we stayed.

Mercure Perth
The Mercure Perth hits our list of best hotels in Perth for kids, as we stayed here as a mid-winter getaway. Their cheapest rooms are very small and have views of the rooves of other buildings.
We mainly stayed at this Perth hotel to swim in the slightly heated rooftop pool. For a winter getaway, you can’t go past this! This is one of the best hotels in Perth for a winter family getaway because of the heated pool.
Parking was about $30 a night, about a quarter of the room cost! The staff is very friendly, and we were greeted by small toys upon arrival and a kid-friendly funky foyer.
These were the main kid-friendly aspects of the hotel, as well as very friendly servers who said they loved it when they had kids come to their restaurant! There is also room service, which is very useful when traveling with kids. The Mercure is one of Perth’s most popular family hotels, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

Nesuto Mounts Bay
The Nesuto Mounts Bay is one of our favourite hotels on the list, and it is especially great if you want to explore many of Perth City’s sights on foot. For many reasons, it is one of the best hotels in Perth for families and for this reason we’ve stayed here not once, but twice in recent years.
This Perth family accommodation is located almost in the CBD. These apartments have everything you might need. They include an ample lounge and kitchen, a washer and dryer, a bathtub and a balcony. There is the perfect amount of room if you want to self-cater or spread out with the kiddos.
You are about 10 10-minute walk from Elizabeth Quay and its attractions. From there, you can ferry to the South Perth area and visit the zoo. You can read about the best things to do at Elizabeth Quay here.
We ate in Central Perth, walked home 15 minutes back to the hotel in the evening, and felt very safe. Highly recommended by us!

City Stay Apartment Hotel
This is one of the best hotels in Perth for an extended stay. Also, if you don’t have your own wheels, it is close to all the city’s action. The City Stay Apartments have an accessible location across from the Harbourtown retail outlet shopping centre.
This is great if you want to do some shopping! It’s also within walking distance of the city sights like Hay Street Mall, the Elizabeth Quay area, and even Kings Park!
These are large, somewhat dated apartments that will suit if you like to have separate rooms and lots of space. Also, they have a small kitchenette or kitchen, so it is a good option for self-catering.
We visited friends there and swam in the modest pool with them. It was definitely a popular option for families in the vicinity of $140 AU a night.
This hotel is well connected by the CAT buses that run around the city and is approximately 300 meters from the train and bus stations, so you have Perth at your fingertips!

Mantra On Hay
Another central city place we have an eye on is the Mantra on Hay, which has a heated indoor pool. The rooms look clean and modern and have balconies. We think it looks great and have included it on the list!

Holiday Inn Perth
The Holiday Inn Perth is one of the tried and true Perth accommodations for families. It is located in the heart of Perth CBD, only 12 miles from Perth Airport.
One of the most appealing aspects of the Holiday Inn Perth is that kids under 12 stay for free and also eat for free in the on-site restaurant.
If you are on a budget or looking for ways to save money when visiting Perth with kids, this could be a really awesome find! This hotel offers your basic Perth family hotel rooms. A few drawbacks are that it has no pool, and you have to pay 24 AUD a day for parking.

Ritz Carlton
The Ritz Carlton is one of the most luxurious family hotels in Perth. Enjoy a daily breakfast, Valet parking and special ‘Ritz kids’ meals.
All rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, some looking out onto the Perth skyline and Elizabeth Quay.
There is an outdoor infinity pool with fantastic views. You can also use the on-site sauna and hot tub.
If you book during the school holidays, there are special events that are great fun for the whole family. An example is the Mad Hatters High Tea Event, a fantastic selection for kids and adults alike.

Perth’s airport is located in industrial areas, and the ride to the airport could be more attractive!
If you take the bus, you need to allow 50 minutes from the central city – and if you take a car, around 35 minutes from most parts of the city or beaches.
If you have an early flight, you might enjoy more sleep, so we recommend staying at a Perth Airport Hotel for early or late arrivals!
Useful Perth Travel Tip: Perth’s Airport terminals can be quite confusing, and it’s a 15-minute drive between terminals 1 and 2 and terminals 3 and 4; you don’t want to turn up at the wrong Perth terminal.
Metro Hotel South Perth
We stayed at the Metro Hotel on Canning Hotel in South Perth. We very nearly didn’t include it in our list of best hotels in Perth as it was slightly seedy (be warned!).
However, it was also cheap at about $120/night, and the rooms have the most amazing views of the Perth City Skyline.
We stayed here for New Year’s Eve to see the midnight fireworks only to find out they have them on Australia Day (don’t make the same mistake we did).
The cleaner’s attention to detail was not super, but it was an adequate stay overall. Read reviews before booking this to ensure it suits your idea of good family accommodation!
The Metro Hotel South Perth is also our ‘go-to’ Airport Hotel for our last few trips, where we arrived in Perth at midnight. You can’t go wrong for $110 – $130/night!

Aloft Perth
The Aloft is a mid-range family accommodation Perth option. Many of the rooms have spectacular views of Perth and the surrounding areas.
The Aloft Perth also has excellent amenities, with a rooftop splash pool, gym, and on-site food and beverage options.
They can also accommodate couples up to larger family groups. They offer your basic hotel room layouts and several different suite options.

Discovery Parks – Perth Airport Caravan Park
If you have a car and are looking for a good family base close to the airport, we have stayed at the Discovery Parks – Perth Airport several times.
It is just a 15-minute drive, and when you arrive, there is plenty of fresh air and space (in contrast to some other places along Great Eastern Highway.)
The two-bedroom units have a double bed in one room and bunk beds in another; everything has been clean and in good condition. We also like that it has safe off-street parking and self-contained cabins.
After a long flight, our kids are only too happy to run around the grounds or play in the pool – the reason we have chosen this Caravan Park instead of a hotel or apartment at a Perth Airport Hotel.

Esplanade Hotel Fremantle – By Rydges
This was originally the Esplanade Hotel, one of Fremantle’s landmarks and one of Perth’s most iconic accommodations. Apart from having an old-world grandeur, this place is brilliantly located.
It’s across from the Fremantle Esplanade with a playground and Ferris Wheel. It is also a short walk from the harbour with fantastic seafood restaurants and Little Creatures Brewery.
Fremantle has a wealth of things to do, just a short walk from this very attractive hotel. We have stayed in other Rydges hotels, which have a high-quality standard. With the gorgeous pools and gardens, this is a beautiful place to stay!

The Swan Valley might be a unique option for visitors to Perth looking to escape the city. You can wake up to the sound of birds, the silence of the country, and lots of fresh country air.
There are some great family resorts in the Swan Valley, and this is a good option for families looking for a country escape – while having close access to the city.
One of the best places to see koalas and kangaroos in Perth is the Caversham Wildlife Park, which is located in the Swan Valley.
Karrinyup Waters Resort
Karrinyup Waters Resort gets a thumbs up for affordable cabin accommodation with 1 or 2 bedrooms, a nice lake with ducks, a playground with BBQ areas, and a swimming pool oasis.
We’ve stayed at Karrinyup Waters a few times over the years, mostly for the heated pools that are warm year round. This place is so popular that they often booked out on weekends and definitely during the school holidays.
This Caravan Park is located quite a distance from the central city and is best for people who have their own transport.

Novotel Vines Resort – Swan Valley
The Novotel Vines is another place we would like to stay for a semi-rural wine-tasting getaway. It is located in the Swan Valley, some half an hour from Central Perth.
Mumma Traveller stayed here for a couple of conferences during her “working” life and remembers it as a elegant hotel with a beautiful pool and plenty to do and see.
This would NOT be a great base if you were going to see the sights of Perth. But it would if you were going to do a rural getaway or Perth staycation, this would be a good location. However, only if you had your own transport.
We plan to use this as a base to visit Whiteman Park or the Outback Splash at the Maze, Australia’s largest water slide playground. Our kids would be keen to jump on the giant jumping pillow, meet native animals, and play in the mazes.

Settlers Rest Farmstay
Settlers Rest Farmstay is a charming farm property located in the Swan Valley. There is only one 3-bedroom cottage located on the property.
While rural and a bit rustic, they take care of all the amenities. The cottage is stocked with linens, towels, and even gumboots! It is quaint and historic but still has a TV and a fireplace in the lounge.
The farm has goats, sheep, lambs, cows, alpacas, horses, chickens & guinea pigs. They encourage the kids to join them in the afternoon at the stables to watch them put the horses up for the evening.
They even encourage the kids to collect eggs for the chickens you can cook in your cottage.
For more information on Settlers Rest Farmstay, check out their website.
Glamping in Perth for Families
Glamping is a great idea for local families looking for a Perth staycation. Glamping makes camping more comfortable than your standard tent, with lots of amenities and someone to put it up for you.
If you are looking for another way of getting away without actually leaving Perth, a glamping holiday is a great idea.
One of the best options would be to try the new Discovery Parks glamping tents on Rottnest; if you think you know Rotto, this will be an all-new experience.
Another idea would be to head down to Lake Brockman and soak in the natural environment there. You can read our full guide to the best things to do in Harvey. Here’s our full guide to the best Perth glamping spots and luxury camping.
