After many fond visits, we’ve compiled the BEST things to do in Denmark, Western Australia!
Denmark- Kwoorabup is located on the south coast, about half an hour from Albany, and has an awesome village feel. We love the whole South Coast area, but Denmark, WA, has a hip and happening, captivating vibe.
If you are looking for Denmark, WA attractions, what can we say? World-class natural attractions are rivalled by wineries, cuisine, and some trendy shopping. Throw in a touch of the alternative hippy lifestyle, and you have a fab getaway.
We always come home from Denmark, Western Australia, feeling pretty hip and a touch more in tune with our inner selves.

Fun Fact: Kwoorabup is the Menang word for Denmark and means “Place of the Brush Tail Wallabies.” The people of Noongar Boodja (Noongar People’s Country) are the traditional owners of the South West of Western Australia, and we recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past and present and continue a commitment to the amplification of their voices.
Disclosure: Through my site there are links to affiliates, which means that I might receive commission if you buy something after clicking them. This costs you no more, and you definitely don’t pay extra. However, I do get a small amount which contributes to the upkeep of this blog. Thanks so much for all of your support – and we hope you have a ball in Western Australia!

Getting from Perth to Denmark Town
Driving – 4.5 hours (with no stops). You can leave work early on a Friday afternoon and wake up with the birds on Saturday morning in Denmark.
Flight – You can fly into Albany, then make the 55km drive (or transfer) to Denmark. Read our Denmark to Albany road trip guide for stop suggestions or list of posts on the Denmark-Albany area.
Bus – TransWA runs regular coach services between Perth and Denmark, with a change in Albany.
How Long Should I Stay in Denmark?
If there is one thing that visitors to this cute little town consistently agree on, it is that they wish they had allowed more time. It is, after all, one of the BEST places to visit in Western Australia.
You need to allow at least 3 nights for a stay in Denmark, WA. This is the minimum if you want to really disconnect and begin to feel the vibe. Read our Denmark accommodation guide for inspiration.

Map of the Best Things to do in Denmark, WA
Must Do Things in Denmark, WA
There are three must-dos in Denmark that you just can’t miss out on!
We believe that we have compiled the most complete summary of things to do in Denmark, Western Australia, that you will find on the web. That is no exaggeration!
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Walk Through the Ancient Forest at the Valley of Giants Tree Top Walk
Location: Valley of the Giants Rd, Tingledale
Distance from Denmark: 45km – 55 min drive

A true Western Australian icon, the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk is the must-do forest experience on the south coast, where you can see the beautiful forest of magnificent, ancient red tingle trees.
The Valley of Giants sits roughly halfway between Denmark and Walpole, but is nearly always claimed as Denmark’s Tree Top Walk.
Plan to spend about an hour exploring both the Tree Top Walk and the Ancient Empire walk through the forest floor. As the Tree Top Walk soars 40 metres in the air (and wobbles), it’s not for people who are afraid of heights. On the other hand, it is completely enclosed and suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
After visiting, here are a few options to make your trip even more amazing:
- There is a wealth of activities available around Walpole, which we cover in ‘Things To Do In Walpole, Western Australia‘.
- If you prefer to head back towards Denmark, WA, we could recommend stopping in at Peaceful Bay.
- As you head back towards Denmark, drop in at either Bart’s Meadery or the Giant Cone.
This is the perfect place to get a bird’s eye view of the special southern forests! For a detailed guide and tips for visiting, make sure you read our full guide to the Valley Of The Giants WA Tree Top Walk, Denmark.
2. Visit a Stunning Beach – Greens Pool, Ocean Beach and Many More!

When planning a visit to a beach in Denmark, most want to visit the world-famous Greens Pool, which is one of the top places to visit in William Bay National Park and has become “Insta Famous”.

The beach is famous for its incredible water color, white sand, and unique geology. In summer, the natural pool at Green’s Pool is sheltered from the south coast winds and is one of the best places to swim.

It’s worth noting that during peak season (26th December-10th January), Greens Pool can get extremely busy, and it’s not built for these numbers.
Parking: In Summer only – Aim to visit before 8:00 am or after 3:00 pm. There is also parking alongside the road (1km back from the main car park and 1km back from Elephant Rocks car park. Remember to drive slowly and carefully, and not to damage the environment when you park

Aside from the ultra-famous Greens Pool, Denmark also has plenty of other stunning beaches. The Southern Ocean is dangerous; you should always explore it with a friend! We’ve written a full guide to the best Denmark WA beaches, but here’s an overview:
- Madfish Bay: A quieter spot, less crowded than Greens Pool just around the corner. In summer, a sandbar often forms that lets you walk across to a little offshore island, though care is needed with currents.
- Waterfall Beach: Right next to Madfish Bay. The surf can be rough… We’ve never swum in the ocean at Waterfall Beach with the kids, but they did play under the waterfall!
- Ocean Beach: The main surf beach close to town and patrolled in summer. Swim between the flags, and if you are keen, it’s also a favourite for surfing lessons.
- Lights Beach: We also like Lights Beach, which is a really attractive beach (and dogs are allowed if you are with your pooch).

- Parry Beach: Long stretches of sand with stunning views and good fishing.
- Peaceful Bay: One of the safest swimming beaches near Denmark, with gentle waves and shallow water. This is the best option if you’re travelling with kids. It’s the same coastline as the magnificent Greens Pool, but half the people.
3. Take a Drive Along One of the Charming Country Roads, Mt Shadforth or Scotsdale Road, Taking Your Time
Mount Shadforth Scenic Drive is part of the wider Scotsdale Scenic Drive and is one of Denmark’s prettiest country roads. Scotsdale Road, part of Tourist Drive 255 (about 34 km), takes you through rolling farmland and Karri forest (native woodland of the area).
The loop takes around an hour without stops, but it’s worth slowing down for farm gates, vineyards, and lookouts along the way.
The drive starts at the Denmark Visitor Centre. Head east along the South Coast Highway, then turn onto Strickland Street and follow Mount Shadforth Road.
On this route, stop at the Mount Shadforth Lookout for incredible views across Wilson Inlet, the Southern Ocean, and as far as the Stirling Ranges.
A favourite stop is Harewood Forest, where you can stretch your legs on a short trail under the tall trees. This drive also links to William Bay, so you can combine it with a swim at Greens Pool or Elephant Rocks. Along the way, you’ll find art galleries, wineries, and farm gate stalls, so take your time and you’ll find hidden gems. Many of the recommendations in this article are partway through the drive!

The BEST Things to Do in Denmark, Western Australia
If we haven’t yet got your interest, please read on to discover more Denmark WA attractions. There is truly a wealth of things to see and do in this gorgeous town.
Wondering what to do in Denmark? Here’s your ultimate list!
4. Explore William Bay National Park
Location: William Bay Rd, William Bay

William Bay is naturally blessed with gorgeous white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and impressive rock formations.
The park stretches from Parry Beach in the west right through to Lights Beach on the eastern side, and offers something for every kind of visitor. For detailed info on this, we’ve written a whole guide to William Bay National Park.
5. Elephant Rocks
Location: William Bay Rd, William Bay WA 6333

Elephant Rocks, Denmark, is quite literally a photographer’s dream. Nature has done a fantastic job turning these boulders into amazing sculptures. The rocks that resemble a herd of elephants are a fun place to explore with kids all year round.
We love rock climbing around there. We also like looking for animals in the rock pools and escaping from the rowdy elephants.
If you’re planning to visit, make sure you read our detailed Elephant Rocks guide.

Denmark Activities
Denmark offers a wide range of activities to choose from, including hands-on animal encounters, markets, and adventure parks.
Here are our top picks:

6. Denmark Arts Markets
Location: 2A Strickland St
With a thriving art scene and plenty of creative local folk, the Denmark Arts Markets are a great day out.
With live music and a boho hippy feel, you can kick back and feel the vibe. You can also go shopping for some ingeniously made local products that are often organic and natural. Held monthly over the summer through to Easter (contact the Tourist Bureau for exact dates).
7. Horse Riding in Denmark, WA
We recently went horse-riding in Margaret River. Next, we will focus on a trail ride in Denmark.
Our top recommendation is The Lazy R Pony Stud – a gorgeous property in beautiful Happy Valley! Yes, that’s right. It is located on Happy Valley Road, and it is a very pretty property with karri forest, swampland, and some hilly terrain that is perfect for a trail ride.
We are told that the Lazy R Trail Rides are suitable for all levels of riders and that the horses are suitable for all skill levels. This is a kid-friendly activity, and they have Shetland Ponies for smaller children.
As the Lazy R Trail Rides are not far from Bart’s Meadery or the Giant Cone, you can celebrate a successful horse ride with an ice cream later!

8. The Denmark Animal Farm & Pentland Alpaca Stud
Location: 2019 Scotsdale Rd, Denmark
Formerly known as the Denmark Alpaca Farm this place is one of our children’s favorite places in the whole world (YES – world)! They love feeding the kangaroos and alpacas, petting the rabbits and guinea pigs, and generally being in a small farm environment.
Definitely visit the Denmark Alpaca Farm around feeding time – 3 pm – for a chance to bottle-feed baby lambs, goats, or calves. This 100% suits the little kids, and our kids picked this as the best activity in Denmark with kids.

Getting There
The Denmark Animal Farm and Pentland Alpacas are located right at the end of Scotsdale Road. There are two ways to get to the Denmark Animal Farm. Both take about 20 minutes to drive along truly stunning roads.
Better still, we would make it into a loop trip. Travel along picturesque Scotsdale Road in the morning. Stop at some of the Denmark Farm Gate Trail spots (see more information below) before spending a couple of hours at the Alpaca Farm. Then, you can head to Bart’s Meadery for a yummy honey-flavoured ice cream (or the Giant Cone if you are looking for more variety).
Finish the day up at the stunning Greens Pool for sunset and rock exploration before heading back home along the South Coast Hwy.
9. Denmark Thrills Adventure Park
Location: 380 Mount Shadforth Rd, Denmark, WA

I’d had my eye on the Denmark Thrills Adventure Park for a while, but as it sounds very adventurous, even for daredevils, I had to wait until my son turned 8 to take it on!!! And wow!!! What a ride, we loved it.
Denmark Thrills is home to the world’s longest globe-riding track, the only one of its kind in Australia. And, because I didn’t know, globe-riding is also known as hydro-orbing or zorbing!
Basically, you go down a track while inside a 3-meter-diameter globe! Bookings are essential, as there are only so many hydro orbs.
This activity can be combined with a visit to a local Denmark restaurant or winery, but we would go before you ate! In fact, Denmark Thrills Adventure advises that earlier in the morning, when there is little wind, is better than later in the day, when it’s windy.
The Adventure Park is located just 3 km from Denmark town centre on Mt Shadforth Road. Even for non-hydro users, there is a beautiful patch of bush and stunning views.
10. Visit Denmark Dinosaur World
Location: 51 Bandit Rd, Bow Bridge

Located between Denmark and Walpole, Denmark Dinosaur Park is a great day out with kids. It has a permanent exhibition of dinosaur skeletons, including the only T. rex in Australia.
If your kids are into dinosaurs, they will love to spot the Protoceratops and other horned dinosaurs, as well as the animatronic dinosaurs like the Jurassic Apex Predator Allosaurus.
The park also offers hands-on experiences with parrot and reptile species, including rare pythons, dragon lizards, and monitor lizards. Discover conservation efforts for the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo and the Giant Macaws of South America.

The park has picnic and barbecue facilities, ample parking, and a gift shop.
11. Butter Factory Studios
Location: 10/12 Mount Shadforth Rd, Denmark
Butter Factory Studios is a fine art gallery that displays the work of local artists and craftspeople. There’s a unique range of handmade items from pottery to paintings and jewelry to sculptures across the open studios. There are often exhibitions and workshops held here too.
The Studios are located in the Old Butter Factory, which also has Mrs Jones café restaurant. (also being renovated)
12. Denmark Historical Museum
Location: 16 Mitchell St, Denmark, WA 6333

The Denmark Historical Museum is in the Old Denmark Police Station on Mitchell Street. You’ll be able to view a large range of exhibits covering the region’s indigenous history, early European settlement, and development over time since 1829. The best part is that the museum is completely free to enter!
There are documents, photos and artifacts to explore. The museum also focuses on the town’s maritime history, which includes stories of shipwrecks and early explorations. Being in an old police station adds to the experience with creaky floors, small windows and even a prison cell.
13. Murals in Denmark, WA

While Bunbury and Albany have some spectacular murals, Denmark, WA, has some nice murals. We love the ones at the Little IGA (located near the River) and the Denmark Vet Hospital, painted by Sobrane Simocky. Here is also a great big purple flower opposite the Big IGA that is a lot of fun.
Activities in the Denmark River Area

The Denmark River provides a wonderful centrepiece for this cute little town. It’s one of the best Denmark WA attractions, and it is free!
Perfect for families – There are lots of activities to keep families with kids entertained. For younger kids, there is a decent playground in the centre of town (opposite the pub), and all ages love the Kwoorabup Community Park, which encourages you to engage with nature. For older kids, a bicycle ride along the river to the Denmark River mouth will be a fun outing, while adults enjoy the deep reflections and views.
Here are the top things to do in the Denmark River area:
14. Berridge Park/ Denmark River Playground – Perfect for Kids
Location: Berridge Park, Hollings Rd, Denmark

If I had younger kids (e.g., 5 and younger), I’d prefer this playground to the Kwoorabup Community Adventure Park. It’s more conventional and has typical playground equipment.
There are swings and a big enough spider to entertain my older kids. However, this playground is right on the Denmark River, and there is no fence, so you need to keep an eagle eye on the children!
15. Kwoorabup Community Adventure Park
Location: Kwoorabup Community Park, LOT 502 Scotsdale Rd

I’ve read that this is described as the best adventure park in Western Australia, and it’s true that it is by no means a conventional playground; it was innovative when it was first built, some 10-15 years ago.
It is an adventure park in all senses of the word. Kids need to be creative and consider how to use the space. There are logs, gullies, climbable trees, and lots of areas to explore.
In addition, there’s also a massive lawn area where you can kick a ball or throw a Frisbee. There are also toilets and BBQ areas.
The Kwoorabup Community Park can be easily accessed from Denmark town via a walking trail that begins at the toilet block opposite Pawprint Chocolate.
16. Wilson Inlet Exploration
Location: Wilson Inlet, Western Australia

You can launch your kayak or canoe at Berridge Park (park near the kids’ playground) and glide up and down the river. You can head upstream until the river becomes too narrow, enjoying the karri trees lining the shore and keeping an eye out for birds. Then head downstream as far as the Railway Bridge or further if you like.
If you are a stronger paddler, you could also launch your canoe or kayak at the Denmark Rivermouth Caravan Park or Poddy Shot Boat Launch.
From here, you can explore Poison Point and Honeymoon Island. The information on how to do this is from the folks at the Rivermouth Caravan Park. Note that the inlet can be choppy and difficult to navigate in windy weather.
Wilson Inlet Views

The Wilson Inlet is fed from the Denmark and Hay Rivers. It is perfect for boating, swimming, bird-watching, and fishing, and offers a range of beautiful views. On an average day, you can see black swans and pelicans.
Shopping in Denmark
Shopping in Denmark has a lovely small-town charm. Instead of chain shops, you’ll find independent shops which are fun to explore. Think shops filled with local flavour: organic produce, handmade crafts, vintage finds, and even one of WA’s best-loved tip shops.
Here are some of our top picks:
17. The Green Pantry
Location: Shop 1/39 Strickland St
If you’re after fresh, local goodness or love eco-friendly finds, The Green Pantry is worth a stop.
You’ll find gourmet pantry staples plus loads of gluten-free, vegan and paleo options. Alongside the food, there are natural health and wellness products, eco-friendly home and body care, and even books and cookware.
18. Enjoy the Thrill of Browsing in an Old-Fashioned Book Shop at Tea House Books
Location: 8 Hollings Rd

When this Mumma was a kid, buying a new book was the ultimate luxury. We would at first browse the hallowed shelves before turning the precious pages.
In Denmark, you can have this experience and more. Tea House Books is an old-fashioned bookshop with a coffee shop at the back, and it’s a wonderful place to step back in time.
19. Go Tip Shopping at Denmark Green Skills Tip Shop
Location: E River Rd

No, we are not encouraging consumerism. However, Denmark is blessed with one of the most awesome tip shops on earth!
Like the popular “Op Shop” (Opportunity or Thrift Shop), the tip shop, run by Greenskills, is filled with so many good-quality second-hand items that your mind boggles.
It is all offered at very low prices. We’ve left here with garbage bags of clothes before, and every time we visit Denmark, this is on the list of stops!

Denmark Biking and Walking Trails
One of the best things to do in Denmark, WA, is to enjoy the beautiful forest by going on a bushwalk or cycle ride.
This little town is fortunate enough to sit right on the Bibbulmun Track, one of the world’s great long-distance walking trails, stretching over 1,000 km from Kalamunda (near Perth) to Albany.
Of course, the Bibbulmun is just one of many options. You’ll also find local bushwalks, coastal lookouts, cycleways by the water, and the epic Munda Biddi Trail.
Here are my top recommendations:
20. Biking Trails in Denmark, WA
Denmark offers various biking trails, from the famous long-distance Munda Biddi Trail (154km from Walpole to Denmark) through forests and coastal areas to local paths like the family-friendly Inlet Drive Cycle Path and Ocean Beach Cycleway along the coast.
Other options include the Denmark-Nornalup Heritage Rail Trail and the challenging Wilderness Ocean Walk Trail (WOW Trail), which is suitable for experienced riders.
21. Walks in William Bay National Park
Location: William Bay Rd, William Bay
As the Bibbulmun Track runs through William Bay, there are several options for short walks along its route. While WA wildflowers in Denmark start in September and run through to November (depending on the season), you can see some lovely flowers all year round on this part of the coast.
We’ve written a full guide to William Bay National Park, which includes a detailed guide to walks, but here’s a summary of the best options:
Tower Hill Walk
Distance: 10km return
A steep and strenuous climb with spectacular views of William Bay towards Mazzoletti Beach and Parry’s Beach. This walk will take several hours and is described as strenuous.
William Bay Circuit
Distance: 11km
If you enjoy walking, this is the best way to get an overview of the entire William Bay! The trail starts at Waterfall Beach and follows the Munda Biddi Trail before joining the Bibbulmun Trail near Tower Hill.
From Tower Hill, the trail descends to Mazzoletti Beach. Here, you leave the Bibbulmun Track and return along the beach via Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks.
Then, you do more rock scrambling to arrive back at Waterfall Beach via Madfish Bay.

22. Sheila Hill Trail and Mt Hallowell
Distance: 5.7km
This trail runs from Ocean Beach Road to Lights Road, following an uphill route that offers brilliant views of the coast and Karri forests. The Sheila Hill trail is also part of the Bibbulmun Track.
The walk is graded Class 4, so expect some steep sections, uneven ground and a bit of clambering over granite. Good walking shoes are a must. Dogs are allowed but must be on a lead.

23. Lights Beach to Waterfall Beach
Distance: 5.9km return
This stunning walk follows the headlands, offering incredible ocean views. It’s a moderate out-and-back trail with rocky and uneven sections, so good shoes are a must.
Allow about an hour to an hour and a half each way if you take your time. Starting from Lights Beach, the trail winds along the coast with views of the Southern Ocean, white sandy bays, and cliffs before arriving at Waterfall Beach, which is much quieter than the world-famous Greens Pool – a quiet stretch of sand where a little creek spills over the granite and onto the beach, especially pretty after rain.
24. Mount Lindesay
Location: Mount Lindesay
Distance: 9km

Mount Lindesay offers a steep return walk to the summit of this granite outcrop. You are rewarded with stunning views and, in the wildflower season (September), a truly fantastic display of colorful wildflowers.
Speaking of wildflowers, if this is your thing, then you must check out our post about Wildflowers In Western Australia. It is packed with information and great itineraries on where to find the best wildflowers in WA.
Denmark Walks Perfect for Kids
If you’re travelling with kids, there are some stunning shorter walk options. These walks are perfect without kids too as shorter options:
25. Monkey Rock Trail
Distance: 2km

The Monkey Rock Trail is a very popular section of the Sheila Hill Trail/Mt. Hallowell and the Bibbulmun Track. This lovely walk (reasonable for small kids) is set among a regenerated Karri forest, logged 100 years ago but now teeming with life.
From the Monkey Rock carpark (located on Lights Road), follow the Bibbulmun Track markers until you reach the Dieback Cleaning Station (please use this). The path climbs gradually through tall Karri and Marri forests, although there are logs, roots, and slippery sections.
When you reach a large open area, the Bibbulmum track continues along the ridge, while you head across the top of the granite rock.
Be prepared for breathtaking views of Lights Beach, farmland, and Wilson Inlet, extending right out to the Nullakai Peninsula. Hold the kids’ hands at the top.

26. Denmark Maze
Location: 94 Lapko Rd, Shadforth

The Denmark Maze is a great stop just outside town on Lapko Road in Shadforth. It’s a small maze and a lovely but straightforward walk for little ones who enjoy the nooks and crannies created by this maze. It’s a great stop to pair with other Denmark activities. Entry is donation only.
27. Harewood Forest Walk
Location: Scotsdale, WA 6333 – 10 mins from Denmark
A lovely 600-meter walk (EG, doable with small kids) among a regenerated Karri forest, logged 100 years ago but now full of life. There’s a peaceful atmosphere and plenty of bridges and boardwalk sections that kids will love.
The trail follows Scotsdale Brook, then gently climbs to a ridge with views over the valley, before looping back to the carpark.
28. Denmark Wetlands Trail
Location: Denmark Wetlands Education Centre, Hay
Distance: 0.3km

This family-friendly trail begins at the day-use picnic area of the Denmark Wetlands Centre, an 8-hectare wetland rehabilitation site 2.5km east of Denmark, WA.
The wetland was once regarded as a degraded swamp; however, since 1994, rehabilitation work (by Greenskills Denmark) has included the development of a bird hide, featuring a bird-species information box, a dieback cleaning station, paths, and a boardwalk to provide and control access to the wetland’s viewing sites and Ornitarium.
29. Mokare Heritage Trail – Also in the Denmark River Area

The Mokare Heritage Trail is a lovely 3 km loop walk that follows both sides of the Denmark River. You start at the main road bridge (or alternatively the kids’ playground opposite the Denmark Pub) and then head towards the river mouth.
After crossing the old railway bridge on part of the Wilson Inlet Heritage Trail, you return to town. Kids love to ride their bikes or scooters on this path.
Denmark Fairy Doors Trail

Also part of the Mokare Heritage Trail is the Denmark Fairy Doors Trail. Wander along the trail and you can find doors of the local fairy homes on the base of trees, behind bushes and on tree trunks. Inspo on Instagram
Wellness options in Denmark
With so much fresh air, beautiful beaches and walks through the local forests, it’s no wonder that Denmark has earned a reputation as a wellness destination. Here are our top picks:

Top Tip! When it comes to wellness therapies, creative classes, or community gatherings, check out the notice boards around town (there are various, including near the Denmark Bakery or at the Civic Centre toilets)

Just a short drive from town, Aiyana Retreat is one of the best places in Denmark to truly switch off. The wellness centre is known for its massage treatments, with options ranging from deep tissue and Swedish to remedial, pregnancy, hot stone, aromatherapy, and reflexology.
You can also experience more specialised treatments such as dry needling, myofascial cupping, and even calming belly massages.

32. Denmark Yoga Centre
Location: 4/39 Strickland St, Denmark, WA 6333
Located right in town, you can enjoy a yoga class in the light-filled studio. Casual drop-in visits are more than welcome, but sessions and longer courses are also bookable.
33. Yoga at Karuna Sanctuary
Location: 22 Adams Rd, Denmark
Karuna Sanctuary has yoga classes in a beautiful bushland setting. Classes aim to help you find your own freedom! Workshops, retreats and creative gatherings are also held here, and a range of massage treatments is also available.
You can view class times and prices here >>>
34. Enjoy an Infared Suna Session at Perspire Denmark
Location: 259 Ocean Beach Rd, Denmark
Located at Gum Grove Chalets just outside of town, Perspire Denmark is the best place to go for infrared sauna sessions.
Their infrared sauna is run as a standalone wellness studio so that anyone can book. The sessions are also popular among locals, which speaks volumes about the quality of the experience.

Denmark Food and Wine: The New Margaret River?
Denmark is often called the new Margaret River, with a growing number of boutique wineries and fresh food experiences.
From cellar doors to casual cafés, there’s plenty to explore, and some incredible food and wine get your taste buds tingling. The area is also part of the Great Southern Wine Region.
For a guide to the best restaurants, make sure you read our full Denmark Restaurants guide (a must if you want to find the most delicious food in the area).
Here are some more of our food and wine recommendations:
35. Singlefile Wines
Location: 90 Walter Rd, Denmark
Located roughly between Mt Shadforth Rd & Scotsdale road, not far from the Lake House (another one of our Denmark winery favourite), Singlefile Wines is one of Denmark’s most loved cellar doors, known for its fruit-driven cold climate wines and beautiful setting – a true showcase of the Great Southern Wine Region.
The estate is named after the resident geese who wander the property in neat single file, a sight that adds to the charm of a visit. I can’t profess to know a lot about wines, but I have a couple of friends who rave about Singlefile, and especially the Tasting Experiences, which are relaxed and seated.
If you are keen to learn more, the Sense of Place experience takes you into the vineyard and even offers a taste from the barrel. Singlefile is one of the best Great Southern wineries, and one you won’t want to miss.
You can also opt for a Chardonnay masterclass and learn the different stages of the Chardonnay winemaking process with plenty of tastings and a full glass of your favourite at the end!
36. Ducketts Mill Wines and Denmark Farmhouse Cheese
Location: 1678 Scotsdale Rd

Ducketts Mill is a favourite stop in the Scotsdale Valley. The vineyard produces a range of cool-climate wines that pair perfectly with their handcrafted cheeses, made fresh on-site.
Platters are generous and delicious, with local charcuterie, fruits, and breads alongside the cheese and wine. You can also purchase the wines and cheeses on-site.

This 1-day food and wine tour from Albany makes a stop at Duckett’s Mill – ideal if you’ll be basing yourself in Albany.
37. The Lake House
Location: 106 Turner Rd, Shadforth
The Lake House is a 5* James Halliday rated winery with a rustic cellar door, restaurant and gourmet shop only a few minutes from town. It has one of the most beautiful settings in Denmark with a stunning lake, willow trees and wide lawns.

You can enjoy relaxed, complimentary wine tastings of exquisite Great Southern wines with views over the lake and gardens. Signature wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
The café serves seasonal meals and vineyard platters made from local produce, and you can also pick up VinoFood condiments and Wine Spa products. It is one of the most popular spots for a long lunch in Denmark, so booking is recommended if you plan to dine.

38. Forest Hill Wines
Location: 1564 South Coast Hwy, Denmark
Forest Hill is the region’s first cool climate vineyard, planted in 1965 and still family-owned today. The cellar door is open daily from 10:30 am to 5 pm and offers tastings in a unique underground space. You can try the award-winning wines, including Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
On-site, you’ll also find the popular Pepper & Salt Restaurant, where seasonal dishes are carefully crafted to complement Forest Hill wines, along with a shop where you can pick up a few bottles to take home and enjoy later.

39. Rockcliffe Winery
Location: 18 Hamilton Rd, Scotsdale, WA
Just 4 km from Denmark town centre, the vineyard is surrounded by peaceful karri forest and farmland. Rockcliffe is a welcoming winery where you can taste some of the finest quality wine in WA. It’s been rated a 5-star winery by James Halliday for 7 years in a row!
You can enjoy complimentary tastings of 21 different varieties, along with house-made gelato and fudge for something sweet. The atmosphere is relaxed with wood-fired pizzas, platters and regular live music events. We go to Rockcliffe pretty often and enjoy the markets and live music.
40. Denmark Chocolate Company
Location: 2023 South Coast Hwy, Shadforth

The Denmark Chocolate Company is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. It’s located in a rural area 9 km from Denmark.
Browse the huge selection of homemade chocolates, truffles and other delights, all made on-diet. The shop is known for its unique flavour combinations, featuring local ingredients like macadamia nuts and honey.

We love the gorgeous cottage garden where you can learn about the history of chocolate from its origins in the Americas to its European industrialization. There is a series of information panels featuring important moments in chocolate’s history.
The Denmark Chocolate Company is also home to Western Australia’s first licensed chocolate lounge, which serves delicious desserts, hot chocolates, and coffee. You can also order wines, ports and liqueurs.
41. Soccer Golf at the Good Food Factory
Location: 2927 South Coast Hwy, William Bay

So, you have never heard of Denmark Soccer Golf? Well, you have to give it a go when you are next in Denmark! Soccer Golf is like mini golf – lots of fun for the whole family, with sand bunkers, tyres, water and more. It’s like mini golf, but the holes are huge, so the soccer ball fits in them!
At the time of our visit, our kids were aged 10, 7, and 2, and it was quite hard for them to kick the ball and get it in the hole. The distances between holes were quite long, and it was hot out in the sun.
I suggest doing it before it gets too hot or in the late afternoon. The older the kids are, the better! There must be an adult to supervise a maximum of 5 players per group, including children under 10.
No need to book ahead, it hasn’t been busy on the days we have visited. It’s a great value activity!
The Good Food Factory is really a one-stop shop that can be visited for several hours. Once known as the Denmark Toffee Factory, it has expanded to include Soccer Golf, the Giant Cone (delicious Ice Cream), the Elephants Rocks Cidery, Bit on the Side sauces and preserves, and most recently, the ERCC burger bar.
Yum! They had these after the soccer golf, and they were very filling. They also have a playground, the kids were happy to play on, and some gorgeous resident peacocks!
42. Top Shed at William Bay
Location: 65 Rice Rd, William Bay, WA 6333
Just a few minutes from Greens Pool in William Bay National Park, Top Shed is one of those hidden gems you’ll be ultra glad you found.
It’s set on a working farm with paddocks all around, and open from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, Wednesday to Saturday. Think high-quality coffee, sourdough toasties, freshly baked treats and an emphasis on fresh ingredients.
Take your pick of the picnic tables and settle in to enjoy the country air. There’s also a leather studio on-site. Note that pets are not allowed here.
Other Things to do around Denmark, WA
If you’ve ticked off your must-see beaches and forests close to town, don’t pack your bags just yet. Denmark is ideally placed for day trips into the wider South Coast and Denmark region. Here are our top picks:
43. Walpole
Location: Walpole, WA 6398

We’ve often written about the wonders of Walpole and the Walpole Wilderness area. If you are staying in Denmark for a few days, we strongly recommend putting aside a day or more to visit this fantastic nature-based destination. There are lots and lots of (mostly) nature-based attractions around. Check out our post Things To Do In Walpole Western Australia With Kids.
44. Fernhook Falls
Location: Beardmore Rd, North Walpole

About a 1.5-hour drive one way from Denmark, a trip to Fernhook Falls would be a nice Denmark Day trip, an excursion deep into the Walpole Wilderness. The falls are one of our top-rated waterfalls in Western Australia.
I would not just drive to Fernhook Falls, but first visit the Valley of the Giants, then Walpole Town, the Swarbrick art loop, and then onto Fernhook Falls.
At the end of the day, before heading back to Denmark. If you have steam, head to Mt Frankland for stunning views of the wilderness. And if you climb all the way to the top, you’ll have good views back towards Denmark on a clear day.

45. Albany and Mount Barker
Location: Mount Barker, WA 6324/Albany, WA 6330
If you have more time to spend in the area, be sure to check out the cities of Albany and Mt. Barker.
For more information about Albany, read Things to do in Albany WA and our Denmark to Albany road trip guide. If you’re travelling with kids, we’ve also written guides to family accommodation in Albany and the top playgrounds in Albany.
If you are going to make a Day trip to Albany, I would highly recommend a visit to the National Anzac Centre and the Brig Amity.
46. Torndirrup National Park
Location: The Gap Rd, Torndirrup WA 6330

Has anyone mentioned visiting Torndirrup National Park as a good day trip from Denmark? Yes, it is, but it’s definitely NOT in Denmark or even nearby. Torndirrup National Park includes some of the most fabulous attractions of the south coast, including The Gap, the Natural Bridge, Misery Beach and Bald Head Walk trail.
However, it’s definitely not in Denmark – you have to arrive in Albany before diverting down Frenchman Bay Road to Torndirrup National Park, allowing nearly an hour’s driving.

FAQs: Things to do in Denmark, WA
Yes, Denmark is one of the top places to visit in Western Australia, with stunning beaches, ancient forests, plenty of wineries, trendy shopping, delicious cuisine, and a wellness edge. There are plenty of fantastic accommodation options, and you’ll also be ideally located to explore nearby spots such as William Bay National Park and Walpole.
If seascapes are your thing, then Greens Pool on a calm, clear day has to be one of the prettiest places in Denmark. On the other hand, if you are a tree lover, I adore the forest on the Harewood Forest Trail.
While many of Denmark’s most famous attractions are outdoors, on a rainy day, there are a few things you can do. Rainy days are perfect for a long winery lunch, a cosy stop at Boston Brewing Co (it has a fantastic kids’ play corner), or a visit to The Dam at Raintree. You could also book a wellness treatment, visit the Denmark Animal Farm, or take a short trip to Albany to explore its museums, cinemas, or 10-pin bowling alleys.
The name has no connection to the European country. In 1829, Dr Thomas Braidwood Wilson named the river and area after his mentor, Dr Alexander Denmark. It is important to remember that for around 40,000 years before the British arrival, the area around Albany and Denmark was inhabited by people from the Menang Aboriginal language group.
Denmark (Kwoorabup) is about 55 km west of Albany, a 35–40 minute drive along the South Coast Highway. It’s an easy day trip (or road trip) in either direction, with plenty of stops along the way.
Denmark is not particularly dog-friendly, but some wineries, breweries, and food stops, such as Ducketts Farmhouse Cheeses, welcome pets. Dogs are also allowed on the Harewood Forest Walk, parts of Lights Beach, and at the off-lead Dog Island near Prawn Rock Channel. As with any area surrounded by stunning national Parks, there are quite a few attractions where you should leave your dog at home. This is for the dog’s safety as well as to follow the rules! 1080 baiting is widespread in the Parks. Dogs are not permitted at Ocean Beach, Prawn Rock Channel, or in William Bay National Park (including Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks and Madfish Bay).
