If you’re looking for the BEST Station stays in Western Australia, you’ve come to the right place.
Trying a station stay when visiting Western Australia will allow you to enjoy the beauty of remote areas. We’ve rounded up the TOP Station Stays in Western Australia, where you’ll find not just a place to rest but an experience you’ll remember forever.
My children still talk very fondly about our time at Bullara Station stay (half way between Exmouth and Coral Bay) because it was so incredible and unique. I am not kidding, my kids have travelled all around the world, but the station stay experience was so different, it stands out in their memory.

What is so special – it was in the “middle of nowhere” surrounded by miles of red dirt and spinifex, and they got to see how beautiful outback Australia really is!
This list of the best station stays in Western Australia was compiled with my eldest daughter as we planned our route up north for next year. Hamelin Station Stay is definitely on our list, while I am keen to get to Nallan Station as well.
Disclosure: Through my site there are links to affiliates, which means that I might receive commission if you buy something after clicking them. This costs you no more, and you definitely don’t pay extra. However, I do get a small amount which contributes to the upkeep of this blog. Thanks so much for all of your support. We hope you have a ball in Western Australia!
What is a Station?
In Australia, a cattle station is a massive farm where the primary purpose is cattle or sheep grazing. An Australian station is similar to the concept of an American ranch.

Western Australia is home to particularly enormous stations, spanning thousands of square kilometres. In fact, one of the stations on our list impressively exceeds a million acres!
These expansive properties are in the heart of the Australian outback and rural regions. They are often also working cattle stations.
The outback life is something every Australian and International traveller should experience at least once.

What is a Station Stay?
Juxtaposed with the idea of a farm stay, which is for people to give the great outdoors a go and to have contact with the farm animals, a station stay is much more hardcore.
It’s for people who know they are great lovers of the outdoors, appreciate the vast, wide-open spaces of the outback, and are prepared to go to highly remote and tough places.
This is truly at the heart of the Australian outback, and you won’t find many luxury experiences on these working properties. But you will find the kind of people who are dedicated to the land and make great, friendly hosts.

And another thing – the distances. If you plan to visit a Western Australian station stay, you are not going for a weekend getaway or a short drive from major cities.
Expect to drive many hours over rough roads to visit most of them – and to get to your destination. This is part of the attraction and beauty of these places – you won’t find anything quite like these Australian stations anywhere on Earth… and that’s why it’s worth the effort to go.
Our TOP PICK: Bullara Station Stay
For your first station stay, I heartily recommend heading to Bullara Station Stay – its easily accessible and a great location near the Ningaloo Reef. It has a great social program (think campfire sing alongs), beautiful landscapes and the cottages are lovely if you don’t want to camp.
