Caravan Parks and Camping in Exmouth (and Around)
When you’re investigating accommodation in Exmouth, there is one question you need to answer – to camp or not to camp?
Most accommodations around Exmouth are for self-contained campers. The Ningaloo Coast over Cape Range has parks and biodiversity-run campsites that are booked via this portal.
Friends who camp at Osprey Bay every year wait up for midnight when the camping spots open, so that they can get their preferred campsite. Yes, they are in such hot demand!

Here are the top caravan and camping options:
Yardie Creek Homestead Caravan Park
Location: Yardie Creek Road
The closest private campground with facilities is Yardie Creek Station/ Yardie Homestead Caravan Park. They have chalets, holiday shacks, and shearing quarters that book out well in advance.
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park has a really cool tropical outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, barbecue facilities, and a seasonal restaurant. It is located 4km North of Tantabiddi Boat Ramp.

Exmouth town has two main caravan parks – the RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park and Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Resort.
Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Resort
Location: 1112 Murat Road
In addition, the town of Exmouth runs overflow camping at the back of the town oval when we visited (August 2021). You can book for the overflow camping area at the Ningaloo Visitor Centre.
Set in a convenient spot near Exmouth Beach, Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Resort is a great place to check in and settle into holiday mode. They offer a mix of cabins, caravan sites, and tent stays, all equipped with air conditioning, private entrances, and fully equipped kitchens for your convenience.
This place is perfect for a relaxed, family-friendly stay, thanks to amenities like a saltwater pool, BBQ areas, a kids’ play area, and even an onsite spa. There’s also an onsite restaurant serving Aussie classics, in case you don’t feel like cooking at the end of a fun-filled day.

Exmouth Hotels (and Other Amazing Options)
Other types of accommodation (not camping) include hotel rooms, backpackers, and self-contained accommodation. All types of accommodation have pros and cons.
Remember that Exmouth is a remote, exotic holiday location that books out at least one year in advance for peak periods like school holidays. Even the most basic self-contained accommodation costs a cool $280/night, right up to $500 a night for nicer, but not luxurious, places to stay.

We visited all the main Exmouth accommodation and noted:
Nearly all the accommodation is located on the main Murat road in Exmouth, with the exception of the Luxury Mantarays Ningaloo Reef Resort. Most of the places to stay are literally side by side or opposite one another. None are really near Exmouth’s town beach.
Even though some advertise ‘walking distance to the beach’ it’s still a decent walk in what would be warm conditions at most times of the year. However, if you are a young, fit backpacker, it would be ok!
All of the different places offer some type of self-contained accommodation and outdoor pools. The more expensive places have newer buildings and more elegant décor. All have cold-water pools, and some have on-site restaurants.

Potshot Hotel Resort
Location: 561 Murat Road
We stayed at the Potshot Hotel Resort, which is also known as the ‘pub’ and backpackers. I was suitably nervous, travelling with a grandmother and three kids, but I knew I had made a good choice by opting to stay at the Potshot.
It’s true that the Pot Shot is a sprawling catch-all resort that is very big and slightly unkempt. Aside from backpacker accommodation, there are standard motel rooms, self-contained apartments, several bars and a pub-style bistro.
We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment which are on the opposite end of the property from the restaurant/bar area. We had a small, clean swimming pool right outside our front gate.
The entire ‘apartment’ area of the Potshot had a family feel, and quite a few children were staying at the same time as we were. The two- and three-bedroom villas have recently been remodelled and are clean and relatively modern-looking.

They also have a small kitchen area (so you can eat at “home”) and a washing machine and dryer in the bathroom. They have small verandas and a barbecue at the back, so you have everything you need for an economical stay at home.
It must be remembered that Exmouth, Western Australia, is not a cheap destination, and that Exmouth accommodation is booked out years in advance.
Given the prices of other places around town, we thought the price was very reasonable for the whole family to stay.
It’s a fantastic location, as the town centre is a 5-minute walk away. Quite literally, it was quicker to walk out our back door and straight up to the two IGA supermarkets than drive.
